Bullimbal School was formerly Tamworth Special School which was run by Challenge Foundation. It was assumed by the N.S.W. Department of School in 1985 and name changed to Bullimbal School for Specific Purposes. The school has a proud history dating back to 1958.
Bullimbal was formerly located in Johnston Street, North Tamworth, however, is now situated on its new site in Degance Street, where our new purpose-built school was opened on the 12th of May 2010.
The new school site incorporates modern, specialised assistive technologies and state–of–the–art facilities including a heated indoor hydrotherapy pool, sensory garden, multi-sensory learning space and film studio. The school has a well–resourced and engaging playground environment including bike track, play equipment, sand pit, vegetable garden and a range of inclusive and purposeful learning spaces. The school continues to be recognised for its achievements in the integration of technology into teaching and learning and in promoting and enhancing student communication through the use of a range of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems and supports.
The school provides assistance and guidance to all schools in the New England geographical area through the on–going implementation of its Assessment Toolbox for Learning and Support (ATLaS) project. Other major focuses for Bullimbal provide for extensive inclusive Literacy programs for all students through the Four Blocks to Literacy program. The school has developed close links with a range of industry experts in the area of special education, literacy and communication to provide ongoing professional learning, support and guidance as we strive to ensure all students achieve outstanding results.
